Willy Wonka Elevator Is Nearing Reality

| August 4, 2017

Thyssenkrupp has been working on a new type of elevator that they call the Multi.  It uses linear motor technology and can go vertical AND horizontal.  The elevator cars can switch rails and transition from vertical to horizontal at special intersections that reorient the back plane or carriage of the car. As a motion control geek, the beauty and engineering behind this is awe inspiring.  Will it be financially feasible anytime soon.  I guess time will tell but from the look of what all is involved, I have to think that the price for this system would be enormous.  There’s also the weight, complexity and maintenance of the system to consider. Interested to see how this develops.

Here are a few videos and picture of the system.
