Love Arduino and the Internet of things (IoT) – Check this out!

| March 3, 2015

Spark IO has launched a new Kickstarter called the Electron.  It’s a tiny Arduino-like cellular development kit with a very affordable data plan.  This means you can create a projects that are always connected.  They are offering several packages in 2G and 3G cellular as well as a few rewards that are specifically outfitted for things like sensors and asset tags.  The asset tag reward includes a GPS and battery so you can track whatever you put it on, where ever it goes.  The data plans are only $2.99 per month (1MB) and that will give you about 20,000 messages.  Each additional MB is only $0.99 more should you go over.  And the BIGGIE – NO CONTRACTS! you can add or cancel from Sparks website at any time.  This looks like a great project!  I might have to get on board. The Electron only has service in the US, Canada and Europe at the time of this post.
