Small in stature but huge in flexibility – Fanuc LR Mate Robots

| June 3, 2014

I see it all to often,  Custom machines built to do only 1 thing.  Though they have their place, that “place” is shrinking on a daily basis.  Today, robots offer the flexibility to retool at will, at a much lower cost that scrapping an entire custom machine.  This work cell uses a Fanuc LR Mate robot to transfer and space product so it can receive a barcode label.  lets say the product packaging changes.  No need to throw out the robot.  Just modify or replace its end effector (gripper) and do a quick program change.  Lets say that product gets discontinued.  That robot can be reconfigured to do thousands of other tasks.  From loading cartons and applying tape to deflashing parts and quality control.  You’re really only limited by your imagination (and budget).
